Watch Miss Utah Give Cringeworthy Answer in Miss USA Pageant (VIDEO)

Miss Utah stole the show at last night’s Miss USA 2013 pageant, but it wasn’t because of her flowing locks and extravagant evening gown. Marissa Powell flubbed up huge when it came to the Q&A.

Judge NeNe Leakes asked her this question about wage equality: “A recent report shows that in 40 percent of American families with children, women are the primary earners, yet they continue to earn less than men. What does this say about society?”

Powell starts out fairly well in her response, but then things take a turn for the worse. You can see her panic as her brain tries its best to come up with a coherent answer. Unfortunately, her brain lets her down.

“I think we can relate this back to education, and how we are … continuing to try to strive to figure out how to create jobs right now,” says Powell. “That is the biggest problem in… I think, especially the men are … um … seen as the leaders of this, and so we need to try to figure out how to… create education better so that we can solve this problem.”

Create education better? Uh oh, I feel totally embarrassed for her. I understand what she was trying to say, but seems like her nerves got the best of her.

At least Powell wasn’t as bad as Miss Teen USA 2007. Remember this gem of an answer from Miss South Carolina Caitlin Upton? Worst pageant response ever.

Unsurprisingly, Miss Utah didn’t take home the crown this year. It went to the less tongue-tied Miss Connecticut Erin Brady.
