New ‘Cuddle Mattress’ Has Slats for Your Arms

Do you love cuddling but have trouble falling asleep when you’re so close to your partner? A new mattress could be the perfect solution.

Mehdi Mojtabavi has designed the Cuddle Mattress, which features slats for your arms so they won’t go numb underneath your partner. The slats are soft on one side and firm on the other and you can turn them either way to accommodate your tastes. The slats also come in three different materials: latex, polyurethane or polyurethane memory foam.

The mattress, which comes with special sheets, is also good for people with shoulder problems. “Cuddle Mattress lets you hug your better half intimately without any wrist or arm problems,” reads the product’s Facebook page. “You’ll sleep better and you can cuddle longer.”

Mojtabavi won a 2007 Red Dot award for his mattress design and was a 2008 Industrial Designers Society of America finalist, but the product never went into production because his job got in the way.

“I got thousands of emails for a few months,” Mojtabavi said. “It was like a fever around it. You can still see people talking about it and waiting for it to come out, but when you’re involved in other things in your life you can’t always promote a specific product.”

Mojtabavi recently ran an IndieGoGo funding campaign, but didn’t reach his $75,000 goal. He realized customers wanted to try the Cuddle Mattress before purchasing.

Now, he’s hoping to find new investors or a possible partnership so that he can make the Cuddle Mattress a reality.

Would you sleep on it? I love this idea, since I enjoy cuddling but then abruptly push people away when it’s sleep time. But maybe it’s good to push people away and get your own space?
