Lady Gaga Sets the Record Straight About Katy Perry
It’s the battle of the pop stars!
Or is it?
Lady Gaga‘s single “Applause” leaked yesterday, as did Katy Perry‘s single “Roar” — and the Internet was quick to create a feud between the two music powerhouses.
But Lady Gaga told Ryan Seacrest there simply is no feud — and that she’s “really bothered” that people keep pitting her against Katy.
“Because look, we both just happened to want to put our singles out within a week of each other,” she said. “And it’s not necessarily convenient for everyone and may be a little bit awkward … But we don’t need to force-feed this negativity into it until everyone explodes.”
Gaga continued: “I really like Katy Perry, and I like her fans.”
She also tweeted about respecting other artists’ fans:
Let’s make 2013 a year where music/talent/artistry is more important than gossip/fanwars I respect all fanbases 4 their passion #BeTheChange

Katy retweeted the post, demonstrating her support.
It’s clear that the media wants to drive up traffic by creating fake feuds between pop stars — but it’s interesting that these feuds are almost exclusively between women.
Earlier this year, Academy Award nominee Jessica Chastain spoke out against the media narrative that she and fellow contender Jennifer Lawrence were feuding.
“I find it very sad that the media makes up bogus stories about women fighting in this industry,” Jessica said at the time. “Filming The Help was the most amazing experience and yet, that is the film I’m most asked about in regards to ‘fighting on set.’ Why do we support the myth that women are competitive and cannot get along?”
“Please don’t allow the media to perpetuate the myth that women aren’t supportive of each other,” she said.
There’s room for lots of successful women in both film and music. Let’s stop the negativity against both artists and their fans!
