Ellen DeGeneres Will Host the 2014 Oscars

It’s official — Ellen DeGeneres will host the 2014 Oscars!

Ellen announced the happy news via Twitter:

It will be Ellen’s second time hosting the Academy Awards. She first did it in 2007, when she became the first openly gay or lesbian host.

Ellen is considered a “safe” choice, given the fact that host Seth MacFarlane offended many women with his “We Saw Your Boobs” song at the Oscars last year.

Others feel the choice sends a message that the Academy isn’t a club of old, white men. (This week’s election of Cheryl Boone Isaacs as the Academy’s new president should also help to dispel that notion.)

Politics aside, we should all celebrate this news because Ellen is hilarious! Check out her Oscar monologue from 2007:

What do you think of the decision? I know some of us were probably hoping Tina Fey and Amy Poehler would just host everything ever after their awesome turns as Golden Globes hosts.
