‘Magic Mike’ the Musical Is Coming

What’s better than Magic Mike?

Magic Mike live on Broadway!

That’s right, the hit male stripper movie is being developed into a musical. Tom Kitt and Brian Yorkey will write the songs and Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa will write the book for the musical, which I’m guessing will feature a lot of rippling abs.

The musical also reunites the creative team behind the film as producers: Steven Soderbergh, Channing Tatum, Reid Carolin, Gregory Jacobs and Nick Wechsler.

Magic Mike is one of many films getting the Broadway treatment: Catch Me If You Can, Elf and Legally Blonde are just a few of the silver screen hits that have made it to the stage.

Meanwhile, a road-trip movie sequel to Magic Mike is still in the works. Someone just needs to come on board as director, since Soderbergh says he doesn’t want to do it. Perhaps Channing will step up (2 the streets)?

Now, if Channing were to star in the musical, that’d get me REALLY excited.

Would you go see the Magic Mike musical? Is it classier than seeing The Thunder Down Under? I’m asking for a friend …
