Is Genderless BMO From ‘Adventure Time’ Expressive of Feminism? (VIDEO)

If you’ve yet to see the show Adventure Time, I highly suggest you check it out. It’s one of those lovely cartoon shows that’s appropriate for kids while still being quite entertaining for adults.

Since the very beginning, Adventure Time has had lots of lessons to teach its viewers, including ones about gender expression, which is awesome to see on a kids’ show.

In this video, Mike from PBS Idea Channel talks about Adventure Time’s BMO character: a video game system without a biologically assigned sex who acts as and is treated as alternately male and female, depending on context. And what’s more, the show doesn’t treat BMO’s lack of gender as a big deal – or even a deal at all. I don’t know about you, but I think that’s a pretty big deal.

Mike asks, is BMO expressive of the ideals of third-wave feminism? Watch it and let us know what you think!
