All Hail the Tuxedo Dress: 9 Hot Menswear-Inspired Looks
You don’t have to be Justin Timberlake to look hot in a tuxedo. You don’t even have to be a dude!
This summer, we’re seeing all kinds of stylish menswear-inspired tuxedo dresses, jumpsuits, vests and tops — and I can’t get enough. Here are 9 of my favorite ladies-in-menswear fashions:
1. Rihanna’s white Balmain tuxedo dress
On July 10, Rihanna performed at the 2013 Monte Carlo Sporting Summer Festival in Monaco, sporting a hot white mini tuxedo dress by Balmain. A statement necklace was the perfect way to add feminine color to the outfit, and over-the-knee black boots give it that signature Rihanna edge.
2. Alison Pill’s grey Christian Dior tuxedo dress
Another take on the tuxedo dress, this Christian Dior style that Alison wore to the Newsroom Season 2 premiere is more boxy, which makes its plunging neckline and short hem a bit less risque. I would have paired it with some colorful earrings — but I still love it!
3. Miley’s black and white Valentino jumpsuit
At the Maxim Hot 100 Party earlier this summer, Miley rocked a black and white Valentino jumpsuit that echoes the tuxedo while also flattering her feminine curves. Her bold red lipstick really makes it pop!
4. Kristen Stewart’s Chanel tweed jacket
At Chanel’s Fall/Winter 2013-14 Couture presentation in Paris, Kristen donned a sharp white tweed jacket with high pockets and six rows of buttons. By pairing it with fingerless black gloves and short black shorts, she avoided looking too buttoned-up.
5. Rosamund Pike’s crisp white Victoria Beckham dress
At the World’s End premiere in London, Rosamund Pike rocked a crisp white Victoria Beckham dress with a stiff collar and lace side panels. The top of the dress looks a bit like a tuxedo shirt, but the panels let a bit of colored lingerie show through. Love it!
6. Jessica Alba’s leather vest
Leather vests aren’t exactly a new item, but I love the idea of pairing them with colored jeans for a feminine, summery look. Black boots and a black purse make the outfit even tougher — or choose pastel or cream-colored accessories for something a bit more airy.
7. Jamie Chung’s tweed piped blazer
Blazers don’t have to be boring! Jamie Chung wore this adorable blue one that features thick white piping. With shorts and a basic white tee, it’s casual with a polished edge. Pink accessories make it super feminine, too.
8. Krysten Ritter’s grey tuxedo dress
And finally, one last tuxedo dress! At the Way, Way Back premiere in L.A., Krysten Ritter rocked a grey tuxedo dress with amazing pointy pumps. Unlike Alison Pill’s dress, Krysten’s features sleeves and fullness around the hip — but its short hemline balances the full coverage up top.
