Target’s FEED Collection Looks Cool, Fights Hunger

Lauren Bush Lauren’s FEED USA line recently celebrated its fifth anniversary, and now Lauren is launching her first collaboration with Target. The line of clothing and accessories hits Target stores on June 30, and sales will help to feed hungry people in America.

FEED USA works on a cool concept: Lauren was inspired by her travels with the UN World Food Program to find a way to help provide meals to those in need. She developed a bag to sell, with the intention that one bag would result in a donation that would feed one child in school for one year. Now the line’s bags, clothing and accessories have raised money for 60 million meals around the world.

The Target line will include everything from t-shirts to bikes. The stuff is stylish, which is great, but it’s also marked with the number of people that the purchase of each item will feed through Feeding America. So you can get some new gear and feel good about it at the same time.

In a statement on the FEED website, Lauren said she hopes to make the Target initiative the largest in her organization’s history by providing 10 million meals. She also highlights some alarming stats: one in six Americans are affected by hunger, and more than 50 million people in the U.S. don’t have reliable access to food. That’s crazy in such a wealthy country, and it’s great to see Lauren working not only to get food in people’s mouths but also to raise awareness of the issue.

If you’d like to learn more about hunger in America, I recommend the documentary A Place at the Table. It’s an eye-opening look at the problem of hunger, and the possible solutions.
