Czech Woman Gives Birth to Natural Quintuplets
A Czech woman has given birth to the country’s first set of quintuplets.
According to the BBC, Alexandra Kinova, 23, had four boys and a girl on Sunday at Prague’s Institute for the Care of Mother and Child - and they were conceived completely naturally, without IVF!
The quintuplets were delivered by C-section “without any complications.” Mother and babies were taken to the ICU, but are said to be in good condition. The boys were named Deniel, Michael, Alex and Martin; the girl was named Terezka.
Zbynek Stranak, chief doctor at the neonatal section of the institute, says the babies have a 95 percent chance of growing up healthy. The crazier statistic, though, is that the chances of having natural quintuplets are 48 million to one.
According to Wikipedia, there have been fifteen sets of quintuplets born around the world. Most recently the Wilkinson quintuplets (born in 2007 in Arizona) starred in a short HBO docu-series, Texas Quints.
The father of the Czech quintuplets said of his new brood, “They are beautiful, but they look quite alike. I hope this will change. They cried a lot, and I’m glad they’re in good shape.”
Seriously, how would you tell five newborn siblings apart? I hope they get identifying bracelets or something.
