Fake Psy Crashes Cannes, Turns Out to Be a PR Stunt (VIDEOS)

“Gangnam Style” singer Psy sure had a great time at Cannes this year. The 35-year-old South Korean entertainer attended exclusive parties:

And did several interviews with news outlets from around the world:

Astute observers will notice that the man in these photos and videos isn’t Psy at all. In fact, this man is a professional Psy impersonator named Denis Carré — but don’t tell that to the celebs and event organizers at Cannes, many of whom didn’t notice the deception until the real Psy cleared things up on Twitter.

For what it’s worth, the real Psy seemed amused at the news of his impersonator.

While the media and online commentators originally speculated that Carré was a total badass who used his passing resemblance to Psy (let’s be honest, he doesn’t look that much like the singer) to con his way into an exclusive event and enjoy the swag and perks that accompany it, the real story is a lot less interesting.

Carré revealed in an interview with the British GQ that he was there for promotional reasons — and that some of the people he was seen with, including the French interviewer in the video above, were in on it.

“The aim was for people to discover who I am, as a lookalike,” he said.

And apparently it worked, as Carré told the magazine that he’s already received several requests for nightclub appearances.

Why does everything cool have to turn out to be a PR stunt?
