Makeup Review: Give Your Eyes Some Lovin’ With These Organic Beauty Products
Believe me when I say that I love makeup. It’s fun to test out new products and try out the latest finds. Makeup can really transform your face for a night out — or help you look halfway decent after staying up ‘til 2 am scanning Instagram and liking random fashion blogger’s pics. (Guilty as charged.)
And you don’t have to go all cray to look a smidgen better. Sometimes all you need are a few essentials. No need to pile on the foundation and bronzer, ladies!
For me, if I’m in a rush in the morning (which is, like, every day), I usually just dab on a little eyeshadow, eyeliner and mascara. If I forget the eyeliner, my eyes look hella tiny and kind of vanish into my face.
So I decided to check out some organic beauty products, because I’m basically allergic to everything. I mean, anything with a scent — even a hint of odor — will send me into a sneezing fit. Plus, I have real eyeball issues: dry eyes from being glued to the Interwebs all day and a tendency to not blink properly.
Enter: Twirlit’s friends at Saffron Rouge, the #1 organic beauty retailer in North America. Did someone just say “organic,” or did my ears perk up for no specific reason?
The nice folks at Saffron Rouge hooked me up with three of my beauty regime essentials: eyeshadow, eyeliner and mascara. As per their awesome policy, I also got five freebies because my order was over $50.

RMS Beauty Cream Eye Shadow in Seduce

Via: RMSBeautyBlog.com

First of all, I’m a huge fan of cream eye shadows. There’s just something nice about physically applying the shadow with your fingertips. I guess I could use an eyeshadow brush for a more defined look, but I like smudging the stuff over my eyelids and getting a good blend going on. I chose the color “Seduce,” which is a kind of bronzey hue. I ended up wearing it for girls’ night out or when I wanted to add more drama to my eyes. I’m also a fan of neutral tones for the daytime, and I found that this shadow, if applied with a light touch, works just fine for that.
I’d give it a 4 out of 5.
Dr. Hauschka Kajal Eyeliner in Soft Brown

Eyeliner, you’re my best friend — next to my cat Kingsley, of course. Both wonderful, both essential.
The thing is, I usually stay away from pencil-like eyeliners. You know, the ones were you have to sharpen them with a tiny contraption (also known as an eyeliner sharpener, ugh). I’ve had bad experiences with eyeliners that have to be sharpened — plus, I’m super lazy. The ones I’ve tried are usually chalky and dry. Also, no one likes random silvers of wood falling into their eyes from stray shavings.
But, I went out on a limb and tried it — and the Kajal eyeliner actually surprised me with its smooth application. I chose the soft brown liner so I could wear it every day at work without looking like Avril Lavigne or Taylor Momsen. I also have dark hair, so I wanted to lighten up my face. It was still darker than I’d prefer, but it won me over — even if I did have to sharpen it. The smooth finish was what shocked me the most. I ended up having to sharpen it after a bunch of uses, but I gritted my teeth and did it and the results were pretty snazzy.
I’d give it a 4 out of 5 as well.
Dr. Hauschka Volume Mascara in Black

Me and mascara have a love-hate relationship. I love to wear it. It hates to stay on my face. Why? Because I have Asian eyelashes. This means my lashes are long but fine in texture and don’t curl, as hard as I may try. I’ve eventually had to transition to fake eyelashes for those nights when I want to glam it up a bit. Mascaras usually end up smudged on my face and fingertips. But I wanted to give the Volume Mascara a chance.
The mascara is dermatologically and opthalmologically tested — meaning eyeball doctors have given it the go-ahead to be near your blinkers. This is key for me because of my previously mentioned eyeball issues of dry eyes and allergies. So, I put on the first coat and then a second coat. To my surprise, the mascara didn’t clump even though I didn’t wait to put on the second coat. Yes, I know makeup professionals recommend it, but I ain’t got time to wait a whole 15 seconds.
But like all mascaras I’ve worn , it did end up smudging after a few hours. This could’ve been more of a condition of my eyelashes rather than the product itself. But try it out and let me know what you think.
I’d give it a 3 out of 5.
