Can Mindy Kaling Save the Rom-Com? (VIDEO)

On Jezebel today, Reuben Fischer-Baum charts the depressing downfall of the romantic comedy. In the late eighties, a “golden age” of rom-coms emerged, but was soon replaced by an influx of superhero films and edgy dude-centered comedies.

Last month, Paste published a great list of The 50 Best Romantic Comedies of All Time. I love these movies so much I’m holding out hope for the resurgence of the studio rom-com. But right now, it’s fair to argue the indie space is the only fertile ground for the genre — recent faves Friends With Kids and Celeste and Jesse Forever come to mind.

Perhaps avid rom-com lover Mindy Kaling can come to the rescue. On Late Night With Jimmy Fallon, she brainstormed some amazing ideas about lady locksmiths and dirty dancing cops. I’m on board!

Mindy also recently appeared on The Daily Show and Late Night With David Letterman. Skip to 15:00 to hear about Mindy’s dinner party murder mystery interactions with Tom Hanks:

Can you say MOVIE IDEA?!
