‘Fatkini’ Blogger Gabi Gregg Launches Bikini Line
Plus-size fashion blogger Gabi Gregg caused a stir last year when she posted some pictures of herself on her style blog looking happy while wearing a bikini. The post, entitled “Fatkini 2012,” contains several shots of Gregg looking confident while rocking a killer black and white striped bikini, along with a call to plus-size women to get out there and try a two piece for themselves.
In a follow-up post on xoJane, Gregg shared a gallery of photos of other women boldly baring all in what she calls “fatkinis.” Considering the women were plus-size (Gregg herself wears a size 18), both articles got a ton of attention – both positive and negative.
For some, the gallery was an empowering example of body acceptance (not to mention a showcase of cool swimsuits). For others, the idea of plus-size ladies having bodies and not being ashamed of them was just too much. In any case, Gregg’s promotion of the “fatkini” generated a lot of discussion.
Now, Gregg is taking her message beyond inspirational pictures. She’s created a line of plus-size bathing suits in partnership with swimsuitsforall, which she says are designed to be both flattering and fashionable. This combination, she told TODAY, is something that traditional plus-size swimsuits are sorely lacking.
“They’re matronly or skirted suits or Hawaiian or floral prints,” she said. “Or it’s the ruched Marilyn Monroe look. That’s cute and all, but we want the option to have statement pieces as well.”
Gregg’s swimsuit line is anything but typical, with its bright neons, classic cuts and oh my god this amazing galaxy print. Let’s just all take a moment to appreciate this beautiful print.
The collection will be available on May 15 and comes in sizes 10 to 24.
