Zach Braff hasn’t written or directed a movie in ages, but all that’s about to change.

Braff just launched a Kickstarter campaign to get his script Wish I Was Here from paper to the big screen. Fans are touting it as the sequel to Garden State, which would be mind-bogglingly awesome, but Braff says the movie is more of a follow-up to the cult hit. It has the same quirky tone and heart as Garden State.

Shut up and take my money already, Zach Braff.

Braff says he was inspired after fans came together to fund the Veronica Mars movie, which reached its goal of $2 million in only 10 hours.

Wish I Was Here had been put on the back burner because of a lack of funding, and although Braff could have tried to make the film through some investors and “money guys,” he doesn’t want to lose the creative freedom and spirit that made Garden State such an epic movie. Wish I Was Here could become a reality if the project reaches $2 million in the next 30 days.

If there’s one movie that defined my twenties, it would have to be Garden State. I have to admit, I felt total elation when I heard Braff might be making a Garden State sequel or sequel-like film. Besides, having a wicked soundtrack (which I’ve listened to a hundred times over), it also has spot-on writing.

If any movie could encompass the awkwardness and confusion of your mid twenties, it’s Garden State. Not to mention, the characters are so well crafted: Natalie Portman stars as one of the most beloved characters I’ve come across and Braff’s sense of isolation is something we can all relate to. Garden State is quirky and out there, and Braff’s new script for Wish I Was Here sounds equally as ingenious and promising.

So far, the project is almost halfway to its goal of $2 million. Let’s make this happen, fans.
