“Everybody, don’t go to the funeral until the day of the funeral. Live this day,” says Valerie Harper.

According to E!, the 73-year-old star of The Mary Tyler Moore Show appeared on Good Morning America to talk about her cancer diagnosis — which estimates that she has only three to six months to live.

Valerie is suffering from leptomeningeal carcinomatosis, a rare and incurable form of brain cancer. According to HuffPo, she previously suffered from lung cancer.

Still, Valerie is keeping a positive attitude.

“We’re all terminal. We really are,” she said. “And we have a lot of fear around death. And I thought that maybe we can help somebody.”

She said she decided to go public with the news of her cancer because she wants “people to be less scared,” adding, “I want them to know the new realm of cancer, that you can die with cancer but not of it.”

Valerie says she’s “living very normally” thanks to medication, and has even been offered jobs. “I think I can do them. I mean, right now, so far, if they were willing to take the chance,” she says.

What does she say to her fans?

“I want to tell them how supportive and loving and exciting it is to feel this in the here and now, and that’s it,” she said. “This is the joy of this. If I was gone you’d be having memorials. This way we can share back and forth.”

Valerie is an inspiration to anyone who has dealt with terminal illness. We love you, Valerie!
