Ever wonder why being in love makes you feel like a crazy person? Why can’t you stop thinking about your sweetheart? Why does everything seem like rainbows and unicorns when you’re in love?
According to ASAP Science, it’s because your brain is actually high on love. The brains of people in love are similar to the brains of people who’ve just done a line of cocaine. The higher levels of dopamine love causes in the brain are linked to euphoria, desire and addiction.
Love is actually similar to drug use. How romantic?
The feelings of love also lower the firing threshold in pleasure centers of the brain, meaning that it doesn’t take much to make you happy. Hence, the rose-colored view that life is grand and that you can conquer it all.
Also, why can’t you stop thinking about that person you’re smitten with? Like, even for one second so you can get things done, like doing the last load of laundry or feeding your cat? It’s because love lowers the serotonin levels in your brain. These lowered levels of serotonin also occur in people with Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD), so you’re a little more “obsessed” with your sweetheart during the earlier stages of love.
