Jennifer Lawrence Wasn’t Dissing Meryl Streep at the Golden Globes (VIDEO)

A few notable things happened in the world of women at the Golden Globes last night. First, Amy Poehler and Tina Fey hosted, and they were awesome. Lena Dunham and Girls grabbed a few awards. Jodie Foster kind of sort of came out, which is weird because I thought she came out forever ago. But everyone’s acting like it was a big deal, so maybe she didn’t.

Oh, and Jennifer Lawrence laid a sick burn on Meryl Streep while accepting her award for Best Actress in a Motion Picture Musical or Comedy for her part in Silver Linings Playbook. Or at least, that’s what everybody thought she did.

Upon taking the stage last night, Lawrence looked at her award and exclaimed, “I beat Meryl!” Seeing as Meryl Streep was nominated for the same award for her part in Hope Springs, folks assumed Lawrence was dissing her and doing a pompous and unnecessary victory dance.

You know what they say: When you assume, you make an ass out of u and me. Lindsay Lohan didn’t really need the help, but hey.

As it turns out, Lawrence wasn’t dissing Streep at all. Phew. I wouldn’t want to have to take sides in a battle between those two awesome ladies.

Lawrence was actually quoting a line from the 1996 film The First Wives Club. You can watch a really bad quality version of the scene here:

Now, for the real question: Should Jennifer Lawrence and Meryl Streep do a movie together? Yes, they should. Agree with me in the comments.
