Couple Announces Breakup With a Song (VIDEO)

We’ve all heard of couples announcing their engagements with cutesy videos set to music — but what about breakups?

Ivory and Jonathan have been dating for five years - but since Jonathan wants to have kids and Ivory doesn’t, they’re splitting up. Instead of announcing it with an awkward Facebook status update, the couple has created a music video, “We’ve Got to Break Up”:

It’s simple, but also painfully honest. We’ve all been there.

“Yes, it’s true folks,” Jonathan writes on the YouTube page. “Ivory and I are splitting up. It’s really sad. I’m really sad. I think you may have been able to tell in some recent songs. It’s going to be a hard road ahead for me, but I know that this is the right decision and that eventually we’ll both be happier in the end.”

“I just want to say, thanks for being out there, watching my stuff and commenting and sending me messages. Your support and love during this time of crisis in my life means so, so much.”

Jonathan Mann has been writing a song a day for over 1,200 days and also co-hosts a podcast called “Always Making” with Chris Piascik, who has has done over 1100 daily drawings.

Breakups are always weird in the world of social media (have you ever had someone click “like” on your newly single status?) — but since we use these networks to reach out for support with other things, why not reach out during a tough breakup?
