Valeria Lukyanova is better known as the “Human Barbie.” This 21-year-old Ukrainian model has used a combination of plastic surgery, an extreme diet and makeup to transform herself into a living Barbie doll. The results are creepy, kind of sad and strangely impressive. Valeria really does look inhuman – for better or for worse.

Anastasiya Shpagina, a 19-year-old who’s also from the Ukraine, has also transformed herself into something otherworldly – though one could argue that she’s taken it even further than Valeria has. Unlike Valeria, Anastasiya isn’t going for the “Barbie look.” Instead, she’s turned herself into a real-life anime character. She’s done such a good job of it, people often claim that pictures of her must be Photoshopped. But they’re not – she’s really just that good.

Oh, and obviously Valeria and Anastasiya totally hang out. How could they not?

The sight of these two evokes an endless string of questions, such as: Why? How did they pay for all that plastic surgery? How long does it take for them to get made up every morning?

But most importantly: How do they get their eyes to look that huge?

Well, I can answer at least one of those questions for you. As it turns out, both Valeria and Anastasiya have their own YouTube channels, where they post everything from vlogs, to interviews, to makeup tutorials. Both have shared videos detailing the process of getting those coveted giant eyes.

It actually looks easier than you’d think. From what I can tell, the process seems to involve iris-enlarging contacts, fake lashes, expert contouring, and a lot of white eyeshadow. Oh, and weird background music. That seems to be key.
