Fiona Apple Arrested for Hash

If you’ve ever seen the video for Fiona Apple’s Every Single Night, in which she performs with an octopus on her head, you know that she’s a little eccentric. But since her arrest yesterday, it all makes a little more sense.

Apple, who is currently on tour promoting her new album, The Idler Wheel Is Wiser than the Driver of the Screw and Whipping Cords Will Serve You More Than Ropes Will Ever Do, was arrested for possession at a border stop in Texas yesterday. Police found hash (a very potent form of cannabis), along with a small quantity of marijuana, on her tour bus. The 35-year-old singer is currently being held at Hudspeth Country Jail in Sierra Blanca, Texas.

This exact same border stop has seen the arrest of Willie Nelson, Snoop “Dogg” Lion, and Armie Hammer, all for drug possession. According to the Huffington Post, the border-patrol checkpoint sees over 17,000 vehicles per day, and uses drug-sniffing dogs to inspect all who pass through it.

It’s currently unknown exactly how much hash the police found on Apple’s tour bus, but under Texas law, even possession of a very small amount of hash could land her in jail for up to two years. Which, considering this is Texas we’re talking about, is far lower than expected.
