Bill Nye the Science Guy Will Teach You How to Tie a Bow Tie (VIDEO)

If you grew up in the 90’s, you likely have a soft spot for Bill Nye the Science Guy. Firstly, because you probably had a teacher who decided that his show was an acceptable substitute for teaching a science class (it was), so any time they busted out the TV cart and a Bill Nye VHS, you knew you wouldn’t be doing any work that day. Secondly, because Bill Nye is awesome and probably taught you a lot about science.

If you weren’t the type of student who immediately fell asleep any time a teacher turned the lights out, Bill Nye taught you about dinosaurs, the Earth’s crust, the phases of matter, chemical reactions, and more.

But one thing that Bill never touched on in any of his show’s 100 episodes is the science behind tying his iconic bow tie. Now, in partnership with Nerdist, Bill is remedying that by releasing a video in which he demonstrates proper bow tie-tying technique.

Bill Nye Fact: Bill Nye can tie a perfect bow tie in 24 seconds flat.

So, what’s the point of knowing how to tie a bow tie? They’re not really in fashion, and have long been associated with dorkiness. In this bonus video, Bill Nye explains one big perk of wearing a bow tie. If you grew up watching Bill Nye the Science Guy, this is either going to shatter your image of the beloved ‘science guy’, or make him seem even more badass.
