Russell Brand Sentenced for iPhone Throwing
The spat occurred on March 15th, when the pap called police and alleged that Brand grabbed his phone and threw it through a window. Brand was promptly arrested, charged, and then released.
He was charged with one count of misdemeanor criminal damage to property. Shortly after the incident, he paid for the damage of the window that he threw the phone through.
After his release on bond, Brand Tweeted about the incident in a humorous attempt to explain his actions.
“Since Steve Jobs died I cannot bear to see anyone use an iPhone irreverently, what I did was a tribute to his memory,” Tweeted the comedian.
Brand faced up to six months in prison, but since everybody knows that celebrities never go to jail, he was sentenced today to 20 hours of community service and a $500 fine instead. Brand has been ordered to carry out his community service at the charity or agency of his choosing. On August 31st, he will have to attend a hearing to report on the status of his community service.
