Colorado Shooter James Holmes Appears in Court
The accused killer was sporting orangey-red hair, fitting with reports that, immediately following the shootings, he had bright red hair and proclaimed himself to be ‘the Joker’.
His demeanor was strange as he sat in the courtroom. He was constantly widening his eyes and then closing them for long periods of time, appearing to be dazed or possibly mildly sedated.
Prosecutors do not know if he was medicated, although unconfirmed reports have stated that he ingested a large quantity of a sedative prior to going on his rampage.
In court, Holmes was told by the judge that he is being held on suspicion of first-degree murder. He will be formally charged next week, though it could be a year before the trial begins. He is currently being held in solitary confinement on a no-bail bond, due to the nature of his crimes.
Prosecutors do not yet know whether they will be seeking the death penalty in this case.
