Demi Lovato Opens Up About Cutting Herself (VIDEO)

Demi Lovato is sitting pretty as one of the X-Factor judges this season. The newly blonde Lovato has been sporting a wacky do now and then, but hair criticisms are probably peanuts to this 19-year-old singer-songwriter.

Lovato recently opened up in the August issue of Self magazine about her cutting issues. “There were times I felt so anxious,” reveals Lovato, “almost like I was crawling out of my skin – that if I didn’t do something physical to match the way I felt inside, I would explode.”

She adds that she felt “no fear” when she cut herself because she “just didn’t care what happened.” The star also answered fan questions about her eating disorder. One fan tweeted this question: What did you learn in rehab?

“I’ve spent the past two years getting over an eating disorder and issues like self-harming and bipolar disorder. Unlike a person who doesn’t have these problems, I have to work on this stuff every day. I’m reminded of that whenever I eat or feel down.”

Lovato entered rehab in 2010 after her high profile breakdown where she punched a back-up dancer in the face. She voluntarily checked herself into rehab for “emotional and physical issues.”

Demi says that she’s changed her lifestyle in order to stay balanced. Some of the steps she’s taken is to meditate and limit her cell phone use.

“I make time for myself and meditate. And I haven’t used my cell in three months! Subconsciously, it was a crutch. When a room gets quiet, what do you do? Grab your phone! Now I can sit and have conversations with people.”

Demi is also an active spokesperson for Love is Louder, an anti-bullying movement. It’s wonderful to see this young woman get her life back on track. We wish her the best in the years to come.
