Marvin Winans Attacked and Carjacked
Prominent Detroit pastor and gospel recording artist, Marvin Winans, was attacked on Wednesday while pumping gas at a local gas station.
Rev. Marvin Winans was at a service station in northwest Detroit when a young man approached him, and began chatting about the music paying on the pastor’s car radio. The young man then exclaimed that gas was spilling from his tank. At this point, Winans was sucker punched by the youth.
While incapacitated, three or four young men punched and kicked him before one of the youth commanded them to “Roll him over.” The pastor was robbed of his wallet, and Rolex watch before they carjacked his SUV. They fled from the scene shortly after the attack.
Rev. Winans doesn’t believe that they recognized him. Earlier in February, the paster gave Whitney Houston’s eulogy, and is highly active in the community. He currently resides as pastor at a Detroit church of 4,500 members.
“I’m just saddened that it has come to this,” Winans said. “This kind of nonsense just has to stop. It’s just the savageness of what’s happening in the street.” Rev. Winans refused EMS transportation, but was driven to the hospital by a friend. It’s reported that the pastor is not seriously injured.
