Rosie O’Donnell and Lindsay Lohan: Snide Remarks or Motherly Concern? (VIDEO)

Rosie O’Donnell had to return to The Today Show to clarify what she said about Lindsay Lohan. Apparently, Rosie doesn’t think Lohan can cut it as Elizabeth Taylor–the troubled redhead’s latest venture as the iconic star.

But is that what really went down? Rosie raised eyebrows on The View when she compared Lohan to the late Whitney Houston. The comedian says that what she meant was that someone should have stepped in to help Houston much like they should be there for Lohan. She thinks that Lilo’s return as Elizabeth Taylor in “Liz & Dick” is too soon for the actress, who recently filmed a scene in Glee and hosted Saturday Night Live.

Lohan has scoffed at O’Donnell’s remarks, saying that “It’s funny that someone you don’t know at all can say something so intrusive, so knowing.” Lindsay feels if Rosie and her had a one-on-one it would change the comedian’s opinion. The two first met when Lohan was 12 years old and appeared on The Rosie O’Donnell Show promoting her role in The Parent Trap.

Rosie went on to say that she was underwhelmed by Lindsay’s lackluster SNL hosting gig, but ended her Wednesday blog post with kind words. “lindsay lohan is worth saving / she is the only one who can do it / before it is 2 late / i hope she can finds her value – off camera / and then – when she returns – on camera / she will wow us all / once more.”

What do you think? Is Rosie flinging out insults or coming from a kind place?
