Cheryl Burke Molested as a Child: Opens Up in New Book

Cheryl Burke is one of the most talented dancers in the world. She’s a two-time Dancing with the Stars champion and a beautiful, confident woman. But that wasn’t always the case.

Cheryl has been carrying the burden of a very troubled past for a long time. Only recently, in her new book Dancing Lessons, does Cheryl open up publicly and tell her story of how she was molested as a young child.

The molestation began when she was just 5 years old, she reveals in her book, by a retired mailman who was admired by almost everyone in her hometown of Bay Area.

Once the abuser was accused of assaulting other children, Burke came forward about her own abuse, testified against her abuser and helped to send him to jail for almost two decades.

Cheryl refers to testifying against him as “the hardest thing I’ve ever done,” but insists that “If I can help just one person…that’s all that matters.”

Cheryl can be seen dancing her way towards the mirrorball trophy when Season 12 of Dancing with the Stars premieres this March.
